Vodka: Liquid underwear remover #FdAdFriday
Sociological Images' Lisa Wade found this old Smirnoff ad on Retronaut. She writes, "The message, of course, is not that a woman who drinks the vodka will become politicized; instead, it is that Smirnoff will 'loosen her up' and facilitate seduction."
Ah, how times have changed...
The Daily Femme's Cherie wrote, "At first, I thought it was tied to some article critiquing the offensive and sexist advertisements of the 1950s and 60s but quickly realized this was nothing more than an advertisement in 2010."
Hmmm...

This ad campaign will ruin your day
Kerry tipped me off to this campaign for Fernat-Branca Bitters, by Ogilvy Denmark.
I'll say one thing for them: They'll sure drive you to drink.

Vodka created by women, for women, who want to get girl drink drunk #FdAdFriday
Jezebel's headline, "Finally, a Feminine Vodka Specially Formulated to Get Your Vagina Drunk" may be more biting, but considering that making alcohol suppositories out of vodka-soaked tampons is already a thing now, it's a tiny bit misleading.
Little Black Dress Vodka is a line of flavoured and unflavoured vodkas branded especially for women, with patronizing copy like:
"There's nothing quite like a timeless classic, yet you're flattered by followers of your exceptional style. Sure, you've got your head on straight, but anyone who knows you knows you're always up for anything."
Although, considering it is written by women, I suppose "matronizing" would be more accurate.
I guess it's no worse than drinks that try too hard to be masculine.
But it's still silly. Do you think anyone will fall for it?

Boozy baby bottles
Italian artist Anna Utopia Giardino has created this series of bottles that mash up popular alcohol and kids' brands, and outfits them with baby bottle nipples in case you missed the point.
Here is the artist's statement:
First seen on Copyranter. Full collection via Laughing Squid.
Here is the artist's statement:
"The bottles are NOT for sale, they are part of an art exhibition. This is an art project to raise social awareness on topics such as alcohol abuse by teens, alcohol abuse by pregnant women, the disinterest of some parents towards their children (abandoned for days between toys and video games), how far marketers can go to gain the attention of their younger customers. There are no commercial purposes."Personally, I think that they would have been better without the nipples. (Which marks the first time in history that art has not been improved by showing nipples.)

F'd Ad Fridays: This wine tastes like crotch!
![]() |
Literally: "taste it!" |
I can just imagine the tasting notes for this Abruzzo white: "a musky nose, with hints of camembert"
At least it's not the red...

F'd Ad Fridays: Not as sweet as you think
This Australian cider ad by BMF reminds me of the photoshop gags a fellow Creative Director keeps making as his Facebook avatar. I had to check the credits to confirm that Clare was not, in fact, behind this creative.

Move over Axe, women prefer the smell of liquor
Poland's Zubrowka Vodka would like you to know that the scent women really go crazy for is liquor:
In this pretty hamfisted Axe parody, they somehow smell the vodka over the dude's bad body spray chemical warfare. Which is amazing, because I thought the whole point of drinking vodka was that it was the "no-tell liquor".

Christina Hendricks celebrates Christmas with a product placement
![]() |
I assume it's a "double" |
According to Celebuzz: "Christina Hendricks celebrates with Johnnie Walker at her annual holiday party at a private residence on December 10, 2011 in Los Angeles, California."
No subtlety here. But it's also the perfect storm of booze, boobs and branding.
Buzzfeeder Gavon Laessig said, "It's as though two examples of perfection were dropped into the Large Hadron Collider and smooshed into one giant wad of perfection. We've discovered the Higgs Bosom. Why, yes, Christina Hendricks…I would love some scotch."
Me, I just can't wait for Mad Men to come back. But perhaps a stiff drink would get me through...
