Copyranter goes upstream, joins Buzzfeed

I've been following Copyranter's blog at Blogger for years. One thing I figured out, once I started one of my own, was that the only way to get good tips and leads was to go upstream, to Buzzfeed, Reddit, Fark, and all those other clearing houses of internet stupidity.

Now, however, Copyranter's Mark Duffy (whose last name I did not know until today) has actually moved himself upstream, taking his blog to Buzzfeed.

Smart move, and presumably he'll get paid for his work now. At least I hope so. But after being so used to the bare-bones template of his old blog, the change is a little jarring right now.

At least he promises, "you will still find 'fucks' and dirty, unfunny jokes and misanthropy and hyperbole." So there's that.

Update: In their coverage, AdFreak added a link to the "about" post I missed, which explains that Copyranter has actually quit agency life and even posed for a photo:

Yeah, fuck you too Mark. And best of luck!

A very Lynchian music video by David Lynch

Oh, yes. It's weird. And of course it has nudity, violence and almost painful weirdness.

According to Lynch's own site,
"Recorded over several months at his own studio in Mulholland Drive with engineer Dean Hurley (who also contributes guitar and drums), "Crazy Clown Time" unveils a majestic, yet powerfully idiosyncratic vision of "modern blues" that could only be drawn from the mind of David Lynch. Filled with foreboding soundscapes, hypnotic rhythms and enigmatic lyrics, this is music that will resonate not only with fans of Lynch's films, but also to listeners who appreciate daring, experimental music."
I don't know what else to say. You can buy the album here.

This Easter, give someone a real bunny to eat

Horrified vegetarians and rabbit-lovers aside, it's actually a great cause. For a $35 donation, Plan Canada will add matching funds and send an orgy of six sex-crazed rabbits to a family in the developing world to breed for food.

According to the site:

"Working out the math for this gift could keep anyone hopping. Six rabbits, which can breed up to 10 bunnies every 31 days, can also create an instant business for a family. That business means food on the table and an income to pay for housing, healthcare and education. All of which adds up to families in charge of their lives, children with opportunities, and hope that will reproduce just as rapidly as this gift."
Thanks to Because I am a Girl Canada for the great gift idea that can start to reverse the karma of all that non-fairtrade chocolate you've probably eaten.

This would be such an amazing ad for snacks

JAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Cheez Doodles!
Aleksander Gamme is a Norwegian adventurer who recently set a world record for cross-country skiing 2260km from Hercules Inlet to the South Pole and back—alone, without airdrops or kites.

On the trip to the pole, he left stashes of supplies (including his favourite snack foods) for the return trip. He says on the description of this video:
"This is day 86 on my full return South Pole Expedition 2011/2012. I`m quite hungry and about to pick up my last cache by my second pulk which I left on the way in. As a part of my motivational plan I have on purpose not made notes on what goodies I have left behind in the cache.. and on this last one, I didn`t expect very much..."

(Skip to :44 if you get impatient)

Clearly, this was one of the better stashes. The video has since gone viral, and has appeared on Huffington Post.

Great news for Wise Foods, makers of Cheez Doodles. Hopefully Aleksander will get a new sponsor out of it.

Me, I just really, really hope this is genuine and not a cynical marketing ploy. I want to believe!

He seemingly also did an "Ask Me Anything" Q&A on Reddit, if you're interested.

Most cynical use of sex in advertising of the week

Okay, it's only Monday and this ad launched last Friday. But try to glean one spec of useful consumer information from this ad:

I guess this is pretty tame for a Kate Upton ad, though. At least she's not simulating sex with a burger in public,  erotically teaching a group of jocks how to use their fingers or using her breasts to win staring contests.

But at least those ads had some sort of concept, as exploitative as it was.

Kargo Kids: A segregated "VIP" section for kids on WestJet flights

From the press release:
WestJet today introduced Kargo Kids, an exciting new program allowing guests to travel on select child-free flights, creating a quieter and more relaxing inflight experience, while children travel in a "special VIP" area of the aircraft.
"As Canada's low-cost airline, we are constantly looking for innovative and fun ways to enhance the guest experience," continued Richard Bartrem. "The initial feedback on Kargo Kids has been quite positive and we're looking forward to the peace and quiet while we get families where they need to be."

Thanks to Kelly for the tip :)

Now even the Farmer's Almanac is sex-obsessed

So, I was reading the "city-slicker" version of The Old Farmer's Almanac, looking for frost predictions, and up pops this ad:

I mean, I know ED is a problem and everything. It was just an unexpected media placement for a penis pump.

From Vacurect India
Since I'm indulging my inner child's humour here, let's all have a giggle over the brand name: "Bonro Medical"

Okay, I'm done now.
